I have a friend that I've known for a few years, and I'm wondering if she has Asperger's.
What she exhibits:
- montone voice, somewhat flat affect in that she always seems neutral and shows little emotion but she is easily angered. she exhibits only neutral to angry emotions it seems
- normal to somewhat high intelligence academically
- trouble connecting with many people. she hangs out but doesn't really click with ANY one...
- as a child she said she had trouble describing things, and that she had to work on her vocabulary extensively and had to go to special program for her to learn how to describe things (didn't get into details)
- no brain injury that I know of
- egocentric, thinks she is good at things that she is not and gets upset when she fails
She could just be horribly socially awkward but I think there's more.Does this person have Asperger's? Monotone voice, flat to negative affect, can't connect with people, normal iq?
It does sound like Asperger's- but its really impossible to diagnose without meeting the person.
However, I've met many people who are socially awkward with the above mentioned symptoms that do not have any sort of disorder. A lot of them are just very unhappy in a particular situation.
Additionally, telling your friend you think she has Asperger's is not going to do either of you any good. Be supportive, and if she ever chooses to tell you that she does have any kind of diagnose- then you'll get your answer.Does this person have Asperger's? Monotone voice, flat to negative affect, can't connect with people, normal iq?
Possibly. The above could indicate aspergers, but its hard to get a diagnosis without meeting or knowing the person, but the above looks likely.
Try getting the person to take the AQ test here http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/鈥?/a>
