Every time when i go on the the internet it always take a long time to load and i ask my aunt why ans she said the same thing happen to her but after she block her linskys it started to go faster. so i was wondering how to block my linksys connection from other people connecting on it. How to block other people from interfering with my linksys connection
The default ip address is 192.168.1.1 on your Linksys router. Open up a browser window, type in the IP number and press enter. Login, find the security section or tab, write down the network name and then disable SSID. Ensure that you are using WPA/WPA2 security with an encryption key of at least 16 characters. Write down this key.
Reset the router. You will need the network name and the encryption to allow computers to access your broadband signal.
Tech support can be located at the link below if you need screenshots and more detailed steps on how to do these changes. How to block other people from interfering with my linksys connection
Change the name and secure it.
1. Change the web-admin password of your router (even if it's wired this is good) so not anyone can get into the config page.
2. Change the default SSID (name) and don't use something that identifies you, your location, or your brand of router to outsiders (e.g. ';Home';, ';Cox.net';, ';My Network';, ';Wireless';, etc).
2. Enable WPA-PSK, WPA-PSK2, or if those aren't supported MINIMUM of WEP128. Refer to the manual or call the manufacturer for directions.
3. Don't hide the SSID. It just makes your life harder and it's easily found out anyways.
4. Don't bother with MAC filtering, if someone can crack your security they probably know how to spoof your MAC address which will circomvent the filtering.
5. Don't use static-IP, it just makes your life harder. Anyone with the slightest knowledge about networking knows how to use a static IP.
The reason you don't want to identify your router's brand/location/owner:
1. Default passwords and settings are available online. Knowing the brand makes it easier to bypass these.
2. Knowing where it is makes it easier to get a stronger signal while staying away. This gives the attacker an advantage of getting a strong signal and being hidden.
3. Knowing who owns it makes guessing your password easier. Most people use names, dates, and other personal info for passwords (bad practice) and if they know you they probably know the things you would use for a password.
by other people using your connection you mean on your wifi right. To put a password on the wifi go to the address bar in your web browser on the top of the page ( where you put a website) and type 192.168.1.1
Then type in the password which by default should be admin and password. then click wireless on the top in the black bar. then under that click wireless security for security mode click wpa and make shure wpa not wep because it can be cracked in less then a minute. then where it says WPA Shared Key enter the password you want and then click save settings at the bottom. now you have a password on the router. to connect again with you laptop clickthe wifi logo at the bottom right of the screen if your using windows xp or click start at the left control panel, networking and connections or something like that then right click on the the wireless thing there and click connect. tell it wpa and enter the password. hope this helps!!
