Why do people give the answer ';use the internet and go look for yourself?';?

Why do people have to answers with ';why don't you check the internet first before you ask?';

The whole point Yahoo Answers is so you DON'T have to go hunting for it on you're own. It also connects people and gives you a chance to view the ideas of others.

If you don't want to answer someones else's question, no matter how easy (or difficult) it is for you, than don't bother answering. Why do people give the answer ';use the internet and go look for yourself?';?
Because they think they are being funny. I feel you.Why do people give the answer ';use the internet and go look for yourself?';?
I would disagree with you on the purpose of Yahoo Answers and I think other people would as well. That's OK. Differences of opinion are OK - we don't have to be clones of each other.

However, it does get frustrating sometimes when people ask easy questions. It takes exactly the same amount of time to type ';French Revolution'; into Wikipededia or Google and read the first couple hits as it does to type ';What can you tell me about the French Revolution'; here and wait for someone not be a smart aleck about it.

I ask questions here when I can't find the answers easily elsewhere - or when I don't have access to resources (like, say, an almanac) to answer a question *quickly* - in the hopes that someone here can help me out. But I at least try to answer my own question first before inflicting it on the forum.

It's all a matter of perspective.
Sometimes, people ask questions to which there are one-word, easy-to-find answers. It's fine if you need other people's opinions, but asking things anyone can just as easily find on Wikipedia is a waste of other people's time, and you aren't exercising your brain as much as if you just Googled it. Everyone's been taught research skills at school; why not use them?
I think it is just so they are noticed?
Because it is more EFFICIENT for them to read the info for themselves than for me to re-type the whole article for them. If someone does not understand something, asks for comment or clarification, or an opinion, I answer that. If they ask for plain old information because they want someone to do the research for them, I will tell them how to find the info, and usually give one reference. Sometimes I find a great deal of info avail on the subject they asked about. I want them to know there is a lot of info avail. I tell them what phrase I entered in the search bar that worked to find the info. I will help them, but not read, re-type, and regurgitate all that info for them. If I can help them learn to research for themselves, it is better than just giving an answer alone. Many people don't know how to do the research, don't know there is an on-line dictionary, atlas, etc. avail...I want them to learn to use these independently.
You can get an answer on the internet right away, instead of waiting for other people to answer.
Alot of the time, ppl are looking for opinions....and they can get that here.
Most of the time people want opinions and a machine doesn't have one.
On fact-based questions,(and when it looks like I am doing someone's homework assignment), the reply is fully justified.

I come here with question to which I have been unable to find the answer on my own

On opinion-based questions, this forum works fine
Did you make Yahoo answers? How do you know that is the WHOLE POINT? I don't for a minute think that it was made for the purpose of doing EASY homework research for others.
A google search gives you more info.

I cant type how to up load your ipod

I'm not a Dr. Go to web MD.

Etc...etc...

Also i hate doing kids homework!

How are we going to learn if someone else does it for us?

We as a people are in trouble if we have your attitude!
Technically, using Yahoo Answers IS using the internet to look for yourself. You looked on Yahoo answers, you didn't have someone else look for it.
