I've downloaded 'Windows Media Encoder' and want to set up a makeshift radio station for my mates to listen to. I've set it all up fine and the computers on my LAN have no problem connecting to it.
The problem occurs when I ask people to connect outside of my LAN using the IP address and port. It constantly comes up with 'can not connect to server'.
I've tried allowing Windows Media Player to go through my firewall and I've even tried disabling the firewall altogtether but the same message comes up. By bandwidth is high so I shouldn't have any problems with traffic either. I think it might be somehing to do with my router but I don't know how to change the settings or what to change.
Anyone know what might be the problem and how I can get around it?... If you could reply in Layman's terms that would be helpful!
Thanks! How can people connect to my computer over WAN?
make sure you are using you're external ip address and not your modem/firewall/hub's ip address. Also if you are behind a hardware firewall, be sure to forward the port properly.
9 times out of 10 server trouble falls into one of those categories.
Alternatively, your isp may block certain ports, in which case you would need to change your broadcasting port.
