To connect to other people on pokemon, you use a system called wi-fi. Any down stairs in a pokemon center will bring you to that area. With a pal pad, you can add other peoples friend codes and they can add yours. With cross-added friend codes, on the wi-fi main screen you will see their name there. You can invite them to a trade, or battle with multiple options. To connect to wi-fi you will either need a wi-fi usb port that is $40 from any electronic store, or wireless internet.
