How can i charge people to use my website and collect payment from them?

I know very little about making a website, i dreaded HTML in high school but i feel smarter now so i might get a book and try to figure it out. Anyway, i found a site with a website builder for an idea i had to connect people. The website would let people in my area post old clothes for sale with pictures and all that. I'm ready to launch the site, next step upgrading to buy the domain, but how do i collect payment from people who post their clothes for sale? Do I charge to post it, or only if it sells to encourage more posting, and how would i collect payment? Or do i not charge a dime and hope the site gets traffic like Black Friday malls? Appreciate any advice, im sure more knowledgeable opinions will benefit this cause. How can i charge people to use my website and collect payment from them?
The payment is the easy part. The big problem is that you are going to have to pay a programmer to make this site do what you want it to, and it sounds like it could end up being a big job.How can i charge people to use my website and collect payment from them?
You can talk to Paypal about setting up a service for charging your customers, but it sounds like the best idea to encourage more posting is to charge a certain percentage of the money made by someone who successfully sells an item over your site. I know that would make me want to use your service more.

Although...you might have some competition already. Ever hear of Craig's List? Those guys have had Time Magazine endorse them in an article already. Best of luck to you, electronic entrepreneur...
i know some websites that use Pay Pal to do that kind of stuff....i am pretty sure that people can pay you by putting money on the account....and a lot of people have Pay Pal, i am sorry if this doesnt help...thats all that comes to the top of my head.

maybe this website helps ; )
This depends a lot on how you really want to run your business, but keep in mind, you have quite a bit of competition, especially from many websites which will not charge for such a service, like http://www.craigslist.com and http://www.ebay.com (ebay charges a minimal fee) for example.

That as it is, you have several options, probably the easiest of which to work with is http://www.paypal.com

You'll want to set yourself up with a merchant account, and then integrate that into your website, or provide instructions to your website visitors as to how they should expect to pay you through PayPal.

My sense of the best way to charge people would be to charge those who wish to list items a fee for listing. People are not going to pay a fee to buy things (and many payment processors including PayPal prohibit you from charging more than the actual value of the transaction) but sellers might be willing to pay a small fee to list things on your site. Keep in mind, though, that you'll be hard pressed to get them to pay a fee to list things on your site if you can't get potential buyers to visit and buy frequently.

I do hope your business plan is much better formed than you have described here. Good luck.
To collect the payment you should have a PayPal account and a credit card. And then payments will automatically get into your credit card. But for creating such sites involving money transfers you should get the consent from the server which you use and also from the WWW organization. You mean to create one like the E-bay.Right?

Surely you can go for it but there may be people getting in to your website cheating you. So just add a facility to track their IP Address. Then i hope that you can do your job well

All the best!!!
